SONAMURA: Activists of the Mahila Congress staged a demonstration in Sonamura, burning effigies of newly appointed Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi and BJP MP-actress Kangana Ranaut, amid the continuing political fallout over the NEET paper-leak row.
The protest comes days after President Droupadi Murmu accepted the resignation of former Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan from the Union Council of Ministers, with Pralhad Joshi subsequently appointed to the portfolio.
Anger has also mounted over Ranaut’s recent remarks targeting Gen Z protesters, which drew condemnation from the Congress, Samajwadi Party and AIMIM after she used derogatory language against the students behind the 36-day NEET protest movement that ended on July 25 after the government accepted key demands.
Tripura has witnessed related activity through the week, with the Dharmanagar District Mahila Congress organising a candlelight tribute on July 25 for students who reportedly lost their lives in connection with the paper-leak controversy.
