Kaushambi (UP): At least five people were killed and several others injured after an LPG tanker rammed into a divider and exploded at Sirohi Toll Plaza in Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi district, with dramatic CCTV footage of the incident surfacing this week.
The accident occurred around 6:40 AM on June 26, when the tanker, travelling from Kanpur towards Pratapgarh, reportedly lost control and struck the road divider before crashing into the toll plaza. Gas began leaking almost immediately, followed by a powerful explosion that engulfed the tanker and surrounding toll infrastructure in flames.
Tanker driver Dharmendra Dwivedi and a toll plaza employee died at the scene, while three other severely burnt employees later succumbed to their injuries at Prayagraj’s SRN Hospital, taking the death toll to five. The fire also destroyed 16 motorcycles and two cars parked nearby.
Fire brigade units and police teams were rapidly deployed to contain the blaze. Authorities allowed vehicles to pass toll-free during the operation and have formed a technical team to investigate the cause of the crash and subsequent explosion.
