Bishalgarh: Police recovered a large quantity of foreign liquor after conducting a sudden raid on a shop belonging to former Sub-Inspector Pradip Kumar Ghosh at Gautam Nagar No. 1 under Bishalgarh Police Station on Monday afternoon, in connection with alleged illegal sale of liquor.
According to reports, the raid was carried out following information regarding illicit liquor sales at the shop. On learning that police had taken action at the premises, the former SI’s son, Gobinda Ghosh, rushed to the spot.
However, it has been alleged that instead of detaining the former police officer Pradip Kumar Ghosh, police personnel took his son, Gobinda Ghosh, into custody and brought him to the police station. Locals have raised questions over the manner in which the case was handled, alleging preferential treatment shown towards the former officer.
Police have not yet issued an official statement clarifying the grounds on which the son was detained instead of the shop owner. Residents in the area have demanded a transparent inquiry into the incident and appropriate action against those found responsible for the illegal liquor trade, irrespective of their background.
