AGARTALA: The Tripura Pradesh Congress on Sunday organized a special program in front of Congress Bhawan here to commemorate the historic Quit India Movement, launched by Mahatma Gandhi on August 9, 1942.
The program began with Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman hoisting the national flag, followed by party leaders hoisting the Congress flag and, subsequently, the flags of the party’s affiliated wings.
Floral tributes were then paid to the great leaders of the freedom movement and to martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the independence struggle. Congress leaders and workers present paid homage, recalling their contributions and sacrifices.
Following the ceremony, Congress leaders and workers took out a procession from Congress Bhawan carrying the national flag and proceeded to the Martyrs’ Pedestal at Gandhi Ghat, where further tributes were paid to the martyrs.
Through the day’s program, the Tripura Pradesh Congress leadership sought to invoke the spirit of the Quit India Movement and the ideals of the freedom struggle to underline the importance of upholding the country’s democratic and constitutional values.
