AGARTALA: Police arrested a youth with 10.340 kg of banned cannabis, estimated to be worth around Rs 2 lakh in the black market, following an operation in the Agartala Railway Station area on Thursday.
A team led by Sub-Inspector Mangal Debbarma conducted the operation and detained Umar Faruk (20), a resident of Ward No. 6, Bejimara area under Sonamura Police Station.
According to police sources, a search of Faruk’s trolley bag led to the recovery of the contraband. He was subsequently placed under arrest, and the seized cannabis was confiscated by police.
A case has been registered against the accused under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigation is underway to trace the source and intended destination of the consignment.
Police said the operation reflects continued vigilance against narcotics trafficking through key transit points in the capital, with further crackdowns expected in the coming days.
