Agartala: Tripura will launch the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of its electoral rolls from September 5, Chief Electoral Officer Brijesh Pandey announced at a press conference here on Friday.
The exercise, ordered by the Election Commission of India, aims to weed out duplicate, deceased, shifted and otherwise ineligible entries while ensuring the rolls remain accurate, inclusive and up to date. October 1, 2026, has been fixed as the qualifying date for the revision.
Pandey said the drive forms part of a nationwide push by the ECI to clean up voter lists ahead of future elections, with district and block-level officials to be roped in for door-to-door verification once the process begins.
Officials said the revision will involve re-verification of existing entries alongside fresh enrolment for eligible voters who may have been left out. Political parties and civil society groups are expected to be briefed on the process in the coming weeks.
The SIR follows similar exercises carried out in other states this year, and comes at a time when Tripura’s political parties are already gearing up organisational activity ahead of future electoral contests.
