AGARTALA: The Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee staged a condemnation march following a public meeting addressed by All India Congress Committee President Mallikarjun Kharge, alleging that ruling party-aligned and Hindutva organisations had carried out a “purification” ritual at the venue by sprinkling Ganga water after the event.
Congress leaders termed the act casteist and discriminatory, alleging it was intended to convey that the site required ritual cleansing following the Congress president’s visit. Party workers described the move as an affront to constitutional values of equality and a deliberate attempt to stoke caste-based sentiment.
Addressing the gathering during the march, Congress functionaries said such conduct exposed what they called the “regressive mindset” of certain fringe groups operating with the tacit backing of the ruling establishment in the state. They demanded strong action against those responsible and called on the administration to ensure no repeat of such incidents at public gatherings.
The march saw participation from party workers and supporters across various levels of the organisation, who raised slogans against the alleged act.
