AGARTALA: TISF on Saturday alleged that efforts are being made to create a communal atmosphere and disturb peace and harmony in the state ahead of the upcoming Village Council (VC) elections, submitting a memorandum to the State Election Commission office at Gorkhabasti here.
The organisation alleged that certain individuals and quarters are making statements and engaging in activities around the VC elections that could create divisions among the general public. It demanded that the administration and Election Commission remain vigilant to ensure the electoral atmosphere does not turn communal or divisive.
The delegation included MDC Suraj Debbarma, TISF Town Committee convener Amritriyang, and TWF South District president Swapnati Riang, among others, who placed their grievances before Election Commission officials.
The representatives said the Village Council election is a key part of the democratic process and should be free of inflammatory statements, communal division, or mutual hostility. They called for an effective role by the administration and Election Commission to ensure a peaceful and fair election, along with legal action against alleged divisive activities.
Through the memorandum, TISF appealed for the polls to be held while maintaining peace and harmony, so that all sections of people can exercise their democratic rights in a safe environment.
