Agartala:Following a Supreme Court directive mandating that all teachers come under the purview of the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET), the Akhil Bharatiya Rashtriya Shaikshik Sangh submitted an appeal to the Prime Minister and the Union Education Minister, urging that teachers appointed before 2010 be exempted from the requirement.
The appeal was submitted through the District Magistrates of every district, with the organization requesting that the government consider the long service rendered by teachers who joined the profession prior to 2010, before the TET framework was introduced as a mandatory qualifying criterion.
Representatives of the body argued that subjecting long-serving teachers to the test at this stage of their careers would create undue hardship, especially for those who have spent over a decade or more in service without the requirement having been in place at the time of their appointment.
The organization urged the central government to take a sympathetic view of the matter and grant the requested exemption, while reiterating its support for ensuring quality standards in the teaching profession for new appointees going forward.
The appeal comes amid wider discussions on the implementation of the Supreme Court’s order across states, with teachers’ associations closely watching how the directive will be enforced.
