STORM-HIT REANG FAMILY IN GANDACHERRA STRUGGLES FOR SURVIVAL WITHOUT BPL BENEFITS

GANDACHERRA: In a glaring example of systemic oversight, a five-member family in Sadananda Para has been pushed to the brink of extreme deprivation, stripped of basic government safety nets despite living well below the poverty line.

The village of Sadananda Para, located adjacent to the iconic Dumboor Lake and situated roughly 12 kilometers from the Gandacherra subdivisional headquarters, is home to Gajendra Reang, a traditional jhumia (shifting cultivator). Reang has been battling severe financial constraints to sustain his household, which includes his wife and three young sons.

The family’s vulnerability intensified recently when a devastating storm razed their modest residential structure to the ground. Compounding their misery, the family has been repeatedly denied a Below Poverty Line (BPL) ration card, disqualifying them from essential state welfare and emergency subsidized relief.

With his house destroyed and no institutional support from sub-divisional administrative channels, the head of the family expressed immense helplessness over providing food and shelter for his children. Distressed local residents have urged rural development authorities and the local administration to intervene immediately, demanding the urgent allocation of a BPL card and immediate housing assistance to rescue the family from starvation.
