AGARTALA: A scooter rider was left critically injured on Wednesday after his vehicle collided with a truck in the Malaynagar Ripapara area, triggering brief tension among local residents who allege the truck driver and his aide fled the scene without stopping.
According to local sources, the injured man has been identified as Abhidas, 38, who was travelling on his scooter along the Ripapara road when the truck allegedly struck him. He was thrown onto the road and sustained serious injuries, while a Pulsar motorcycle was reportedly damaged in the collision as well.
Residents who rushed to the spot arranged for Abhidas to be taken to GB Hospital by auto-rickshaw, where he is said to be undergoing treatment. His condition has not been officially confirmed.
Locals alleged that the truck driver and an accompanying aide left the scene immediately after the accident, fuelling anger in the neighbourhood. Police from Srinagar police station reached the spot following information about the incident and have begun an investigation into both the cause of the crash and the escape allegation.
The truck has been identified by registration number TR01X 1741, the scooter by TR03K 8077, and a third vehicle involved by TR01B 9659. Efforts are underway to trace those allegedly involved.
