AGARTALA: In yet another major crackdown on drug trafficking, Railway Police recovered a huge consignment of Escoph (codeine-based cough syrup) at Agartala Railway Station, officials said.
According to railway police, the narcotics were being smuggled through a parcel booking, marking the latest in a series of drug hauls at the station. The black-market value of the seized consignment is estimated to exceed Rs 8 crore, police claimed.
Acting on information, railway police intercepted the parcel and recovered the contraband, according to sources. One person has been arrested in connection with the case so far, and further investigation is underway to identify other individuals allegedly involved in the trafficking network.
This is reportedly not the first such incident at Agartala station, with railway police claiming to have intercepted similar consignments in the past, underscoring the route’s continued use for drug smuggling into the region.
