AGARTALA: The Tripura Working Journalist Association (TWJA) submitted a memorandum to Bimbisar, Director of the State Information and Culture Department, on Wednesday, raising a seven-point charter of demands aimed at securing journalists’ professional rights and welfare.
Representatives of the association met department officials and pressed for issuance of appointment letters, introduction of regular pay scales, provision of accreditation cards, and greater transparency in the recognition process for journalists across the state.
The organisation said a large section of working journalists currently operate without proper appointment letters or assured pay scales, and face repeated complications while applying for accreditation, leaving their professional security uncertain.
TWJA general secretary Sunil Debnath said journalists take daily risks to deliver news to the public, yet are often denied basic entitlements such as appointment letters, fixed salaries, and professional recognition. He urged the government and the department to act swiftly on the demands.
Association leaders said they hoped the government would consider the charter with due seriousness and take prompt action. Debnath added that TWJA would continue pursuing journalists’ rights through democratic means, expressing hope for a positive response from the administration.
