AGARTALA: The Tripura Olympic Association (TOA) on Tuesday organised a rally involving all its affiliated sports associations as part of a series of programmes held to mark World Olympic Day.
The rally began from in front of Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhavan here, with participants drawn from various sports bodies recognised by the TOA. Winding through several roads of the city, the rally concluded at the same venue from where it had started.
Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha attended the event along with Ministers Animesh Debbarma and Tinku Roy. TOA secretary Sujit Roy was also present, alongside office-bearers and members of affiliated sports associations and a large number of athletes and sports enthusiasts.
The rally was organised to spread awareness about the Olympic movement and to encourage greater participation in sports among the youth of the state. World Olympic Day is observed globally on June 23 every year to mark the founding of the International Olympic Committee and to promote the values of Olympism — friendship, solidarity and fair play — across all age groups.
Officials said similar awareness programmes would continue to be held across the state through the week as part of the TOA’s Olympic Day celebrations.
