NARAYANPUR: Marking his first official public event since taking charge as the state president, Abhishek Debroy led a mega tree plantation drive on Friday on the occasion of World Environment Day. The green initiative was organized under the central theme of “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” (A Tree in the Name of Mother) at the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar School premises in Narayanpur, under the Barjala constituency.
The high-profile event saw active participation from local environmentalists, school staff, and senior political leaders, including former Barjala MLA Dr. Dilip Das. Together with school students, the dignitaries planted a variety of fruit-bearing and medicinal saplings across the campus.
Speaking at the event, State President Abhishek Debroy emphasized that environmental preservation must begin at the grassroots level. He noted that planting a tree in honor of one’s mother symbolizes an emotional commitment to protecting Mother Earth. Former MLA Dr. Dilip Das also addressed the gathering, praising the initiative and urging the young students to take daily responsibility for nurturing the saplings. The successful drive concluded with a pledge by the attendees to plant more trees to combat climate change.
