KUMARGHAT: Amid persistent government claims of development, the poor condition of the Fatikroy–Kumarghat main road near Vidyasagar Bridge has left daily commuters struggling, with residents alleging long-standing official inaction over the pothole-ridden stretch.
The road, under Kumarghat subdivision, has reportedly remained damaged for an extended period, forcing commuters to travel at considerable risk, according to local residents.
With no government repair work forthcoming, e-rickshaw driver Jaydeep Ghosh took matters into his own hands, filling the potholes using his personal funds and labour, earning praise from the local community for his initiative.
Residents said the incident has raised uncomfortable questions about the gap between official development rhetoric and ground realities, with many arguing that a common working man being compelled to repair a government road at his own expense reflects poorly on the concerned authorities.
Locals have demanded that development claims made by leaders and ministers translate into tangible action on the ground, rather than remaining confined to speeches and statements.
