KALYANPUR: In a major crackdown on illegal timber smuggling, police personnel under the Kalyanpur police station intercepted and seized a vehicle loaded with illicitly harvested logs on Thursday night. The swift action took place in the Uttar Maharanipur Namanjay area, drawing widespread local praise for the police department for effectively executing duties typically handled by forest officials.
Acting on a specific tip-off regarding a smuggling ring operating under the cover of darkness, a specialized police patrol team rushed to the designated spot. Upon spotting the law enforcement vehicle, the driver of the timber-laden truck quickly abandoned the vehicle and managed to escape into the nearby dense forest under the cover of night.
Officers subsequently seized both the vehicle and the massive haul of high-value timber, which was being transported without any valid legal transit permits. The seized forest property has been hauled to the Kalyanpur police station, and an official investigation has been launched to track down the vehicle owner and the absconding driver. Local residents have raised concerns over regular timber smuggling in the region, urging both police and forestry departments to intensify joint night patrolling to protect the state’s dwindling green reserves.
