NABARD-Funded Grape Cultivation Project Launched in Tripura

Agartala: A one-day field-based awareness program on grape cultivation was successfully organized at the local Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) today. The event marked a significant milestone for regional agriculture with the official launch of a new project dedicated to the evaluation and popularization of diverse grape varieties, financially backed by the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD).

The high-profile event was graced by Agriculture Minister Ratan Lal Nath, alongside Minister for Social Welfare and Social Education Tinku Roy, and Zilla Parishad Sabhadhipati Amalendu Das, among other prominent dignitaries and agricultural experts.

Prior to the formal inauguration, the ministers and guests toured the KVK’s experimental vineyards. They inspected the crop quality firsthand and sampled the fruit to evaluate its sweetness and market potential.

Speaking at the event, officials highlighted that the NABARD-funded initiative aims to introduce high-yielding, climate-resilient grape varieties to local farmers. By providing technical training and field assessments, the project seeks to diversify income sources for rural farmers and establish grape farming as a viable commercial venture in the state. Farmers from nearby districts attended the session, gaining valuable insights into modern viticulture techniques.
