Morning Walk Snatching Cracked: Police Recover Gold, Arrest Duo

AGARTALA: Police in East Agartala have recovered a stolen gold chain and arrested two people in connection with a snatching case reported earlier this month, the officer-in-charge said Wednesday.

The chain was allegedly snatched on September 11 from a woman who was out on her morning walk in the Jogendranagar area, East Police Station OC Krishnadhan Sarkar told media persons. Investigators traced and arrested two accused, one of whom is currently in judicial custody while the other remains in police remand, he said.

Interrogation of the accused in remand reportedly revealed that the stolen chain had been pledged at a gold loan facility for approximately ₹1.28 lakh. Police subsequently recovered the chain from the location and took it into custody. The OC said the recovered chain carries an estimated market value of around ₹2 lakh.

Police are investigating whether others were involved in the incident, according to the OC. He added that patrolling will be intensified across the city ahead of the upcoming Durga Puja festivities to prevent snatching and other criminal activity.
