Kailashahar: Kailashahar MLA Birajit Sinha has demanded a neutral and transparent investigation into the unnatural death of Tripura’s Director General of Police (DGP), Anurag Dhankhar, stating that the lack of clarity surrounding the incident has raised serious questions in the public mind.
Addressing journalists, the MLA said that a reputed police officer’s death remaining shrouded in mystery, without clear facts being made public even after considerable time, was a matter of grave concern. He asserted that if the death was indeed a case of suicide, the government owed it to the people to disclose how and under what circumstances it took place.
Sinha called for the investigation to be conducted under the supervision of a sitting High Court judge, asserting that such a step was necessary to ensure impartiality and public confidence in the findings. He further claimed that the demand for a fair probe was not confined to opposition ranks alone, but was being echoed by concerned citizens across the country who wished to know the true cause behind the DGP’s death.
The MLA urged the Chief Minister to take swift cognizance of the matter and make the government’s position clear without delay. He stressed that only a credible and independent investigation could put to rest the speculation and unanswered questions surrounding the case, and called upon the state administration to act promptly in the interest of transparency.
The MLA’s remarks come amid growing public and political attention to the circumstances of the DGP’s death.
