Man Booked Under POCSO Act for Alleged Rape of Minor Tribal Girl in Sabroom

SABROOM: A 50-year-old man, identified as Joharlal Debnath, has been arrested and produced before Bilonia Special Court after being booked for the alleged rape of a 14-year-old tribal girl with a disability in Sabroom subdivision, police said.

According to the complaint, the incident allegedly took place on August 15 at the survivor’s residence in Uttarpara, under Manu Bazar Police Station. The accused was taken into custody after the survivor’s family approached Sabroom Police Station with a medical report following examination at Sabroom Subdivisional Hospital.

Manu Bazar Police Station registered a case (No. 18/2026, dated 17.08.2026) under Sections 64(2)(l)/65(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Section 6 of the POCSO Act, 2012, and Section 92(d) of the RPWD Act, 2016, Sabroom Subdivisional Police Officer Deeptanu Biswas confirmed.

The accused was medically examined at Manu Bazar Rural Hospital before being produced in court. Investigation is underway.
