BISHRAMGANJ: In a major breakthrough in the ongoing anti-narcotics drive, the Bishramganj police intercepted an auto-rickshaw loaded with a massive consignment of illicit contraband on Tuesday. A total of 39.5 kilograms of dry cannabis (ganja) was recovered during the operation.
According to police sources, a team from the Bishramganj Police Station was conducting a routine vehicular check on the Ramnagar Pagli Bari Road under Ramnagar Village. Acting on suspicion, the officers signaled a passing auto-rickshaw to pull over. A thorough search of the three-wheeler led to the discovery of the high-grade dry cannabis hidden inside the vehicle.
Briefing the media on the seizure, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Bishalgarh, Bikash Sinthia, stated that the street market value of the confiscated narcotics is estimated to be well over ₹4 lakh.
The police have seized the auto-rickshaw and registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. A preliminary investigation has been launched to track down the network of smugglers involved in the supply chain and to determine the final destination of the contraband.
