Agartala: Leader of the Opposition Jitendra Chaudhury on Monday launched a sharp attack on the state government over its handling of the investigation into the unnatural death of former DGP Anurag Dhankar, hours after Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman was expelled from the Assembly for raising the same issue.
Speaking in the House, Chaudhury said the government’s words and actions did not reflect a genuine effort to uncover the truth, adding that he was raising the matter not merely as an Opposition leader but as a concerned citizen and elected representative. He noted that Dhankar’s death had triggered intense public reaction and suspicion from the outset, and alleged the government had managed to “tide over the situation for a few days” before the Assembly convened.
Demanding a transparent inquiry, Chaudhury asked why the government had not ordered a Special Investigation Team or entrusted the probe to a sitting High Court judge if it was genuinely seeking answers. He further accused the treasury benches of creating disorder to prevent the Chief Minister from responding, and described Roy Barman’s suspension as an attempt to suppress the Opposition’s voice.
