Khowai: The Khowai Municipal Council on Monday launched drainage work to address chronic waterlogging in the Subhash Park and Radha Krishna Temple area of Khowai town, responding to long-standing complaints from residents.
Even light rainfall leaves the area under knee-deep water, causing severe hardship for pedestrians, local residents, and students, particularly near the Government English Medium School. Following repeated appeals from the community for a permanent fix, the Municipal Council initiated the necessary steps to improve drainage and resolve the recurring problem.
Council Chairman Debashish Nath Sharma personally inspected and oversaw the work on the ground. Ranjit Gope, Secretary of the Khowai branch of Jadav Mahasabha, was also present along with other local residents.
Gope thanked the Municipal Council and Chairman Sharma for taking up the initiative to address the decades-old civic issue.
Local residents expressed hope that the intervention would lead to a lasting solution to the waterlogging problem, significantly easing the hardship faced by the community during the monsoon season.
