Agartala: IPFT General Secretary Swapan Debbarma sustained a head injury after allegedly being assaulted by Tipra Motha workers and supporters in front of Hezamara RD Block, and is currently undergoing treatment at GB Hospital here.
Reacting to the incident, IPFT held a press conference at Agartala Press Club on Wednesday night, with party General Secretary Parimal Debbarma condemning the attack as politically motivated and “extremely worrying.” He alleged a deliberate attempt to weaken the party and raised concerns over the safety of its leaders and workers.
Debbarma said the matter had been taken up with the election department, and police had been urged to ensure such attacks do not recur and that the electoral atmosphere remains peaceful.
The party also questioned the effectiveness of the BJP-Tipra Motha-IPFT political alliance, arguing that allegations of attacks between allied partners’ workers raised doubts about the coalition’s purpose.
IPFT demanded an impartial probe and legal action against those responsible, asserting that while political differences may exist, violence has no place in a democratic environment.
