AGARTALA: A programme titled “Higher Education Dialogue” was organized at State Guest House Sonartori on Wednesday, where Higher Education Minister Kishore Barman held an open discussion with student representatives on the state of higher education in Tripura.
Director of Higher Education Animesh Debbarma was also present at the event.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister termed the initiative a first-of-its-kind effort in the history of higher education in the state, describing it as a platform for free and open discussion rather than a conventional government meeting. He said the format was designed to reverse the usual dynamic, with students voicing concerns and the government listening, and that outcomes of the dialogue would inform future policy.
The Minister linked the initiative to the government’s broader target of increasing participation in higher education and its vision for a “Viksit Bharat” by 2047, stating that colleges needed to evolve beyond degree-granting institutions into centres of nation-building.
Discussions reportedly covered challenges facing colleges, employment-oriented education, and plans to strengthen the higher education system through 2030. Officials said similar consultations would be held with other stakeholders in the future.
