CHARILAM: Residents of Baluyachhari under Chechurimai Gram Panchayat in Charilam block on Saturday voiced sharp anger over the long-dilapidated condition of their village road, alleging it has remained unrepaired for the past two decades.
According to villagers, the road turns virtually unusable during the monsoon, forcing residents to remove their footwear and walk barefoot in order to reach the local market. Many said the condition of the road had become so severe that relatives and guests routinely declined invitations to visit the village, citing the difficulty of access.
“During the rains, we have to carry our shoes in hand to walk to the market. Because of the road, our relatives don’t come even when we invite them,” residents said, describing years of hardship caused by the neglected stretch.
Villagers said repeated appeals to local authorities over the years had yielded no concrete action, leaving the community increasingly frustrated. They have now demanded immediate repair of the road, warning that continued neglect would further isolate the village, particularly during the monsoon season when access becomes most difficult.
The condition of rural roads in parts of Tripura has remained a recurring grievance among residents, with several villages reporting similar long-pending infrastructure demands to local panchayat and block administration bodies.
