DEBIPUR: Residents of Card 26 area in Debipur have accused a local man’s five dogs of repeatedly attacking and killing goats and sheep belonging to villagers, alleging that police have failed to act despite a formal complaint.
The dogs reportedly belong to Hari Debnath, son of Lalmohan Debnath, a resident of Shantitila in Debipur who is locally described as a minor party functionary. Villagers allege the animals killed eight goats over time, with the latest incident on Saturday when the dogs allegedly entered several homes and attacked goats and sheep on the street.
According to residents, repeated appeals to the local panchayat pradhan went unanswered, prompting affected families to file a complaint at Madhupur police station. They allege no action has been taken so far.
On Sunday, residents reportedly gathered and warned that they would gherao (surround) Debnath’s house if compensation was not paid for the dead livestock.
