Agartala: The Tripura Electronic Rickshaw Workers’ Union, affiliated with the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh, submitted a memorandum to the administration in West Tripura on Monday, raising a seven-point charter of demands on behalf of e-auto and auto-rickshaw drivers. A deputation was also submitted to Kishore Debbarma, GRP SP.
The union said thousands of transport workers are grappling with administrative complications, excessive fines, permit-related issues, stagnant fares, and rising costs of living, leaving many in financial distress.
Key demands include clarity on action against unpermitted e-autos under MVI rules, faster resolution of pending traffic cases through Lok Adalats, and an end to fines based solely on traffic camera photographs. The union also flagged garbage bins obstructing roads in the Battala area, and called for repair of defunct traffic signals and re-marking of faded zebra crossings citywide, citing daily accident risks.
Further demands include a halt to alleged harassment and irregular fine collection by traffic police at checkpoints, and restoration of earlier timing restrictions confining heavy vehicles (6 to 16-wheelers) to night hours between 10 PM and dawn to ease congestion.
The union warned of a larger agitation if the demands are not addressed promptly.
