“Double-Engine” Regime Under Fire: Helpless 70-Year-Old Widow Driven Away by Agartala Councillor Over Pension Demand

Agartala: In a stark reminder of the mounting public grievances under the current “double-engine” government, severe allegations of harassment have emerged against a local civic leader. Ashu Sarkar, a helpless 70-year-old widow residing in the Lankamura area under Ward No. 1 of the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), has publicly vented her anger after being denied her rightful pension.

Sarkar is currently living in absolute destitution, struggling to arrange basic daily meals and life-saving medicines. Her plight is worsened by the fact that her adult son is also critically ill and unable to work.

In her desperate pursuit of financial survival, Sarkar approached her local Ward Councillor, Mitra Majumder, multiple times to plead for a government pension. Instead of receiving assistance, the elderly woman alleged to the media that she was severely humiliated and driven out of the councillor’s residence simply for asking for her allowance.

The heart-wrenching incident has sparked intense outrage across the Lankamura locality. Critics have seized the opportunity to slam the ruling dispensation, pointing out that despite high-decibel talk of welfare, vulnerable senior citizens continue to face systemic apathy, administrative negligence, and insult from elected representatives.
