Dharmanagar Police Cracks Down: Brown Sugar Peddler Held Near ISBT

Dharmanagar: In a significant success for Dharmanagar Police Station’s anti-drug drive, officers apprehended a suspected drug peddler near the ISBT in the Rajbari area of Dharmanagar on the basis of intelligence inputs.

Acting on a tip-off from police intelligence sources, a team kept watch over the ISBT area after receiving information about a person moving about suspiciously. The individual, later identified as Uttam Kumar Nath, a resident of the Kanchanpur area, aroused the suspicion of officers on duty and was promptly detained for questioning.

A search conducted on the spot led to the recovery of a packet containing approximately 19 grams of brown sugar, a banned narcotic substance, from his possession.

Following the seizure, Dharmanagar Police Station registered a case against the accused under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The accused has been taken into custody, and further legal proceedings are underway.

Police sources said investigation is continuing to determine whether the accused has any links to a wider drug trafficking network operating at the national or international level. Officials indicated that the probe would look into the source of the contraband and possible connections to organised peddling rackets active in the border region.

Police have appealed to the public to report any information related to drug trafficking in the area.
