A young mechanic has been missing for five days, with his family alleging that mounting debt may be behind his disappearance, prompting a desperate search by relatives and local residents.
Dipto Debnath, who ran a bike and scooty repair shop at Uttar Chebri Dibyadoy Chowmuhani for the past eight years, left home on the morning of telling his mother he was headed to his shop. He has not been seen or heard from since.
According to his mother, the family grew alarmed when he failed to return home that evening, and there has been no contact from him in the days since. Local residents allege that Debnath had borrowed between five and six lakh rupees from several people in the area, and suggest his inability to repay the debt may have led him to leave.
His parents, along with neighbours and local residents, have since been searching for him at various locations, but have found no trace so far.
Police have not yet confirmed a missing person’s complaint. Efforts to locate Debnath are continuing.
