Congress Slams Probe Panel into DGP’s Death as “Eyewash,” Demands Judicial Inquiry

Sudip Roy Barman alleges administrative pressure, hints at CM’s role

Agartala: The Congress on Sunday sharply criticised the state government’s decision to form an investigation committee into the death of DGP Anurag Dhankar, calling it an “eyewash” designed to suppress facts. Addressing a press conference alongside TPCC president Ashish Kumar Saha and general secretary Prashanta Sen Chowdhury, senior MLA Sudip Roy Barman alleged that a proper probe would not be permitted under administrative pressure.

Roy Barman questioned the circumstances of the death, asking whether it was murder or suicide, and said doubts persisted over whether typical indicators of suicide were present. He asked whether an SP-level inquiry report would ultimately implicate the Chief Minister, and suggested the possibility of a premeditated killing, while pointing to the earlier death of Sukharam Debbarma during the Left Front regime.

He demanded that a sitting High Court judge instead head the investigation, expressing disappointment over the High Court’s inaction on suo motu cases since former Chief Justice Dipak Gupta’s tenure. He further raised questions over Chief Secretary J.K. Sinha’s recent hospitalisation.

Roy Barman claimed Chief Minister Manik Saha “knows a lot” about the matter, though he did not elaborate on specific allegations.
