Agartala: In protest against an alleged attack carried out by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Youth Congress workers and supporters yesterday, a delegation of Congress leaders is set to submit a deputation today by meeting with the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) at the CRPF camp located in Shalbagan.
According to party sources, the delegation will be led by Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee President Shri Ashish Kumar Saha. Also present will be CWC member and MLA Shri Sudip Roy Barman, along with Youth Congress President Nilkamal Saha and several other party functionaries.
The deputation comes a day after Youth Congress workers and supporters allegedly faced an attack by CRPF personnel, an incident that has triggered sharp condemnation from the Congress party. Party leaders have described the alleged action as unwarranted and have demanded accountability from the security forces involved.
Sources within the Congress party indicated that the deputation would formally place on record their objections regarding the incident and seek an explanation from the DIG regarding the conduct of CRPF personnel during the alleged confrontation. The party is also expected to demand assurances that such incidents are not repeated in the future.
The Youth Congress, which has been at the forefront of various agitational programmes in the state recently, has voiced strong displeasure over the alleged attack, calling it an attempt to suppress democratic activities and silence the voices of young political workers.
Security arrangements at the CRPF camp in Shalbagan are reportedly being reviewed ahead of the delegation’s visit. Further developments are awaited as the meeting between the Congress delegation and the DIG is set to take place later today.
The incident has added to the prevailing political tension in the state.
