Agartala:The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) held a high-profile press conference to voice deep concerns over the escalating challenges plaguing the common public. The trade union body strongly condemned the recent, abnormal price hikes of petroleum products like petrol and diesel, alongside other daily essential commodities, noting that inflation has pushed the cost of living to unsustainable levels.
Further fueling their grievances is the central government’s implementation of the new labor codes. CITU leadership argues that these codes systematically weaken hard-earned labor rights, degrade job security, and prioritize corporate interests over the welfare of the working class.
To challenge these policies, the union laid out an aggressive, multi-month roadmap to mobilize the masses. Leaders announced a series of extensive rallies, public meetings, and grassroots campaigns scheduled throughout June and July. This mobilization will culminate in a massive, nationwide protest and demonstration in August to demand an immediate rollback of the fuel price hikes and the total repeal of the controversial labor codes. CITU has warned of intensifying the agitation if the government fails to address public distress.
