Agartala: Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha formally inaugurated newly installed idols of Ram and Sita at the Sri Sri Nrisingha Devta and Sri Sri Ram Janaki Temple — dedicated to Lord Rama and his consort Sita, also called Janaki — in Agartala’s Old Motor Stand area on Thursday, coinciding with this year’s Rath Yatra celebrations across the state.
The temple, recently renovated, was reopened to devotees as part of a broader state initiative to restore heritage structures associated with Tripura’s royal era. Addressing the gathering, Saha said the “chariot of development is moving forward in Tripura,” adding that such restorations aim to showcase the state’s historical legacy to the younger generation.
Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Deepak Majumder, the West Tripura District Magistrate and the Superintendent of Police were among the dignitaries present at the ceremony, along with other officials.
The inauguration adds to a series of temple restoration efforts undertaken by the state government in recent years, including work at the Tripura Sundari temple in Udaipur under the Centre’s PRASHAD scheme and the inauguration of the Siddheswari temple in West Tripura’s Barkathal. The Old Motor Stand shrine has long served local devotees ahead of its latest renovation.
