Kailashahar: Repair work on a section of the Manu River embankment in Latiapura Gram Panchayat area, under Gournagar RD Block in Unakoti district, has come to a standstill following a border-related complication with Bangladesh.
Work on the stretch was obstructed by Bangladesh’s Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), officials said, leading to suspension of the repair work on that portion of the embankment.
State Social Welfare and Social Education Minister Tinku Roy visited the site on Friday to take stock of the situation on the ground. He was accompanied by State Waqf Board Chairman Mobswar Ali, along with other elected representatives and concerned officials.
During the visit, the minister reviewed in detail the current condition of the embankment and discussed the status of the incomplete repair work with officials present. The obstruction has raised concerns locally, given the embankment’s importance in preventing flooding and erosion along the Manu River in the border area.
Authorities are expected to take up the matter through diplomatic and administrative channels to resolve the border-related complication and allow the repair work to resume. Local residents in the affected panchayat area have expressed hope for an early resolution, given the embankment’s critical role in safeguarding nearby settlements during the monsoon season.
