AGARTALA: The Bharatiya Janata Party organised a protest march on Wednesday against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s “despicable” agitation staged in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official residence in New Delhi, with the demonstration culminating in a tense stand-off near Congress Bhavan.
The march began from the BJP’s state office and wound through several roads of the city before converging at the Post Office Chowmuhani area, in front of Congress Bhavan. Party workers and leaders raised slogans against Rahul Gandhi and the Congress leadership, condemning what they termed an attempt to create political disruption and undermine constitutional propriety by staging a sit-in outside the Prime Minister’s residence.
As the march reached the vicinity of Congress Bhavan, the atmosphere turned tense, with heavy sloganeering from BJP workers prompting a heightened security response. Police had already made elaborate arrangements in and around Congress Bhavan in anticipation of the march, deploying a large contingent of personnel to prevent any confrontation between BJP workers and Congress activists present at the party office.
Barricades were put up at key points, and security personnel maintained a close watch on the crowd to ensure the situation did not escalate. Despite the charged atmosphere, no major untoward incident was reported, with police managing to keep the two sides separated throughout the demonstration.
BJP leaders addressing the gathering accused Congress of playing politics over the NEET paper leak issue and using student protests for its own political mileage, while reiterating support for the central government’s education policies.
