BJP Slams Opposition Over DGP Dhankar’s Death, Alleges Politics of Misinformation

AGARTALA: BJP MLA Ranjit Das, addressing a press meet alongside General Secretary Bipin Debbarma and Media In-Charge Sunit Sarkar, termed the death of IPS officer Anurag Dhankar “painful” while accusing opposition leaders Jitendra Chowdhury and Sudip Roy Barman of attempting to mislead the public over the issue.

Das alleged that opposition leaders had made disparaging remarks about the DGP during an event in Belonia and claimed the state lacked a democratic system. Rejecting this, he asserted that the very fact opposition parties could hold such programmes proved a democratic environment existed in Tripura. He cited past controversies, including the ginger procurement scam, the Rose Valley scam, and the Bishalgarh block scam, along with past killings of a minister and an SDM.

Targeting Sudip Roy Barman directly, Das accused him of repeatedly switching parties and forming a “shameless” alliance with the CPI(M) in 2023, despite political killings having occurred under both Congress and Left rule in the past.

Das further claimed the Chief Minister had shared a cordial relationship with Dhankar, speaking to him days before his death, and suggested the DGP had felt humiliated by remarks made against him.

He also referenced other controversies, including a skeleton found at the CM’s residence and an assault on a colonel, accusing the opposition of irresponsible politics.
