DHANPUR: Sunil Sarkar alias Tufan, BJP booth president of Booth No. 12 in Baniachhara Gram Panchayat, faces serious allegations of embezzling over one lakh rupees collected in the name of settling a bike accident.
According to sources, the case stems from a road accident roughly a month ago in which Mannan Mia’s motorcycle collided with local resident Bhajan Das, leaving Das seriously injured and hospitalised at GB Hospital.
A mediation meeting was subsequently held, at which Tufan allegedly collected ₹1,30,000 from Mannan Mia’s family, citing the threat of legal proceedings. However, sources allege only ₹25,000 of that amount reached the injured Das, with Tufan allegedly pocketing the remaining ₹1,05,000.
Mannan Mia’s family, on learning of the alleged shortfall, has decided to file a written complaint against Sarkar at Melaghar police station, demanding the return of the misappropriated amount.
No response from Sunil Sarkar or the BJP has been recorded so far. Police are yet to comment on the matter.
