Kailashahar: The Unakoti District Bar Association has demanded an independent investigation into the death of advocate Biswajit Debbarma, alleging serious lapses in medical care that they claim contributed to his death.
In a written deputation submitted to District Medical Officer (in-charge) Dr Sandipan Bhattacharya on Thursday, lawyers alleged that delays in rescue operations following the accident, inadequate emergency medical facilities, and repeated referrals without stabilising the patient led to Debbarma’s death.
The association claimed that both Kumarghat Sub-Divisional Hospital and Unakoti District Hospital lacked essential trauma care infrastructure. They demanded formation of an independent medical board comprising outside specialists, full disclosure of medical records related to the case, and administrative and legal action against those found responsible for the alleged lapses.
The allegations of negligence have not yet been established through any official or independent inquiry. Various quarters have called for a fair and impartial investigation to ascertain the actual sequence of events leading to the advocate’s death.
The incident has reignited concerns over the quality of healthcare services and accountability mechanisms in Unakoti district, with the Bar Association vowing to continue pressing its demands until a thorough probe is conducted.
