BAMUTIA: A family from the Kalibazar area under Bamutia Assembly constituency has approached the Chief Minister and district administration, alleging that their ancestral property was fraudulently transferred through documents signed under the pretext of a “court marriage.”
According to Parimal Das and his family, their daughter Lipika Das was married in 2012 to Antu Das of Khowai. The family alleges Antu Das later persuaded Parimal Das to sign several stamp papers and documents, citing legal formalities, which the illiterate family signed without verification.
The family further alleges that Lipika was subsequently taken to Bangladesh, where she discovered her husband allegedly lacked valid Indian citizenship documents and was allegedly involved in cross-border illegal activities. She was reportedly brought back to India while pregnant after alleged abuse, following which contact with her husband ceased.
The family claims they later discovered their house and land had been registered in Antu Das’s name through the earlier signed documents, and that he has since attempted to take possession of the property, allegedly accompanied by police, while making threats against the family.
The family has demanded a fair probe and restoration of their property.
