AGARTALA: A two-day brainstorming seminar got underway in the city on Thursday to chart a permanent solution to waterlogging and urban drainage problems, organised jointly by the state’s Public Works Department and Water Resources Department at Pragya Bhawan.
Themed “Waterlogging and Urban Drainage Problems in Agartala City in the Context of Climate Change: Challenges and the Way Forward,” the seminar was inaugurated by Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Deepak Majumder.
Deputy Mayor Monika Das Dutta, State Government Secretary Kiran Gitte, and Agartala Municipal Corporation Commissioner Saju Bahid were among those present, alongside officials, experts, researchers and policymakers from various departments.
Over the two days, participants are expected to deliberate on the root causes of waterlogging, ways to upgrade the drainage network, the impact of climate change on urban flooding, and long-term remedial measures. Organisers said the seminar is expected to play a key role in Agartala’s push to become a waterlogging-free, sustainable city.
