SIMNA: In a major political development, 251 voters from 66 families in Simna left the ruling BJP on Tuesday to join the Tipra Motha Party (TMP).
The mass defection took place in the presence of local MLA and Minister of State Brishaketu Debbarma, along with MDC Rabindra Debbarma and other party functionaries.
The development is being seen as a setback for the BJP in the Simna area, which falls under the Tipra Motha’s traditional stronghold in the tribal belt. Party leaders reportedly welcomed the new members into the fold on the occasion.
