146 Bottles of Codeine Syrup Seized in Sonamura, Peddler Flees on Spotting Police

Agartala: In an anti-drug operation, police recovered 146 bottles of Escuff, a codeine-based cough syrup often misused as an intoxicant, from the Kalapania area under Sonamura Police Station.

According to police sources, the operation was carried out following inputs about the illegal storage and trade of the banned substance in the locality. However, the alleged peddler managed to flee the spot upon sensing the presence of police personnel before he could be apprehended.

The consignment of 146 bottles was seized from the location, and police have launched an investigation to identify and track down the accused.

Officials said efforts are underway to trace the fugitive peddler and ascertain the source and intended destination of the seized consignment. A case is likely to be registered under relevant provisions of law governing narcotics and psychotropic substances.

Sonamura, located along the Tripura-Bangladesh border, has in recent times witnessed several such seizures, with law enforcement agencies intensifying vigilance against the smuggling and illegal sale of banned cough syrups and other narcotic substances in the region.

Police have urged residents to report any suspicious activity related to drug trade in the area.
