Teliamura: Fresh allegations have surfaced against Biswajit Biswas, Junior Engineer at Teliamura Electricity Corporation, after a consumer family from Brahmachhara alleged they paid ₹3,600 for a new electricity connection nearly a year ago, only to later discover it was never registered in government records.
According to complainant Sabita Modak, wife of consumer Khokon Das, the amount was paid to Biswas and power was supplied to their home. However, no bill arrived for months, raising suspicion. When the family tried repeatedly to contact Biswas, he allegedly did not respond. On approaching the Division-1 office directly, they learnt no connection existed in official records under their name.
The department subsequently disconnected the supply, demanding nearly ₹10,000 in back-billing for a fresh connection — an amount the daily-wage family could not afford. The matter was reportedly settled after they paid ₹6,000 to have the connection officially registered.
Questions remain over the original ₹3,600, which Biswas has allegedly failed to return. The family has accused him of financial irregularity, a claim that remains subject to investigation. Locals allege similar complaints have been raised against him previously.
