Meta is reportedly developing a new AI‑powered pendant capable of recording and transcribing real‑world conversations, signalling the company’s next major push into wearable technology beyond its existing smart‑glasses lineup. The device, still under internal development, comes as Meta attempts to expand its AI hardware ecosystem despite mounting financial losses and intensifying scrutiny over privacy.
According to reports, the pendant builds on technology Meta acquired in December 2025 when it purchased the startup Limitless. The company had created the Limitless Pendant, a clip‑on Bluetooth microphone priced at $199, offering users around 20 hours of recording, transcription and summarisation each month. The device allowed users to attend meetings and later access AI‑generated transcripts and notes through the Rewind app. Production of the original pendant has since stopped, but Meta has promised to support existing users for a year after the acquisition.
Internal memos from Alex Himel, Meta’s Vice President of Wearables, reveal broader plans to expand the company’s smart‑glasses portfolio and introduce a new subscription service called “Wearables for Work.” The initiative aims to position Meta’s wearables as productivity tools for businesses, even as the company’s hardware division continues to post heavy losses. In the first quarter of 2026, Meta’s Reality Labs reported a loss of $4.03 billion on revenue of just $402 million.
Meta is targeting sales of 10 million wearable devices in the second half of the year, reflecting CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s long‑term bet on AI‑driven personal computing. However, the company faces growing resistance to “always‑listening” devices. Promotional posters for Friend, an AI necklace designed to listen to users’ surroundings, were vandalised in New York shortly after launch. Privacy advocates have also raised concerns about Meta’s Ray‑Ban smart glasses, warning that constant audio capture could normalise surveillance.
