Venezuela’s acting President Delcy Rodríguez arrives in India for 5‑day visit, to hold talks with PM Modi and Jaishankar

Venezuela’s acting President Delcy Rodríguez arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday for a five‑day official visit, marking one of the most high‑level engagements between India and Venezuela in recent years. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said the visit is expected to deepen bilateral ties and build on growing cooperation across energy, trade, technology and multilateral coordination.

MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal welcomed Rodríguez, noting that she will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as well as meetings with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. Jaiswal said the visit would “further deepen India–Venezuela ties and build on the momentum in the bilateral partnership.”

Rodríguez is accompanied by a high‑level delegation, including Venezuela’s ministers for Foreign Affairs, Economy and Finance, Science and Technology, Communication and Information, and Transportation. The delegation underscores Caracas’ interest in expanding cooperation with India at a time when Venezuela is seeking diversified global partnerships amid economic restructuring.

The MEA confirmed that the visit, scheduled from June 3 to June 7, was originally planned around the International Big Cat Alliance Summit on June 1, which was later deferred. Rodríguez will now undertake a full working visit focused on strengthening strategic engagement.

Talks are expected to cover energy cooperation, particularly in the oil sector, where Venezuela holds some of the world’s largest crude reserves. India, historically a major buyer of Venezuelan oil, is exploring ways to revive energy ties as global conditions evolve. Discussions will also include trade, investment, technology collaboration, and cooperation in multilateral forums.

The visit signals renewed momentum in India–Venezuela relations, with both sides aiming to broaden engagement beyond traditional energy links and explore new avenues of partnership.
