A senior US official told AP that Trump plans to brief allies on a proposal to begin demining operations in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global energy shipments that has seen heightened tensions in recent months. Britain and France have reportedly expressed interest in supporting the effort.
The summit comes as Modi begins a week‑long visit to France and Slovakia. In his departure statement, Modi said France holds a “special place” in India’s strategic vision, noting that President Emmanuel Macron’s recent visit to India elevated the partnership to a “Special Global Strategic Partnership.” Defence cooperation is expected to be a major theme, with India being a key customer of France’s Rafale fighter jets.
After France, Modi will travel to Slovakia in what officials describe as a historic visit — the first by an Indian prime minister since Slovakia became an independent nation. Ambassador Apoorva Srivastava said the trip will strengthen bilateral ties and expand cooperation across sectors.
