PM Modi marks 12 years in office, highlights welfare, infrastructure and women‑centric reforms

Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked 12 uninterrupted years in office, calling the period one of “trust, development and public welfare” while outlining key achievements across welfare, infrastructure, women’s empowerment, youth development and national security. Modi first assumed office in May 2014 and began his third consecutive term on 9 June 2024, making him the longest continuously serving Prime Minister in India’s history.

In a message shared on X, Modi said the government’s journey had been guided by the principle of “Nation First”, emphasising efforts to empower youth, women and farmers while strengthening India’s global standing. He credited the “blessings of 140 crore Indians” for enabling the government to pursue large‑scale reforms.

Welfare and women’s empowerment

The Prime Minister highlighted flagship welfare schemes aimed at uplifting economically weaker sections. The government says free food grains are provided monthly to over 81 crore beneficiaries, while more than four crore houses have been constructed under housing schemes.

Women’s empowerment featured prominently. Modi noted that 32 crore women have been brought into the banking system through Jan Dhan accounts, while over 10 crore rural women are linked to 91 lakh self‑help groups. He also cited the permanent commission for women in the armed forces and the success of the Lakhpati Didi initiative, which aims to create financially independent women entrepreneurs.

Infrastructure, youth and economic growth

The government pointed to major infrastructure expansion over the past decade:

  • An operational metro network exceeding 1,100 km across 26 cities
  • Introduction of 164 Vande Bharat trains
  • Landmark projects such as the Atal Setu, Sudarshan Setu, and the Chenab Rail Bridge
  • A rise in the number of airports from 74 to 164

For youth, Modi highlighted skill training for over two crore young people, Mudra loans worth ₹23 lakh crore, and the growth of India’s startup ecosystem to over 2.2 lakh startups.

As Modi enters his 13th year in office, the government says its focus remains on welfare, empowerment and global leadership.
